’Tis the season to be jolly but Smile Senior Care would also like for our seniors to be safe this holiday season. Let’s go over a few tips to be safe and sound this holiday season. 1
Candles are beautiful and festive, they can smell great and add charm to the season. However, be safe when using them. Make sure that they do not burn closely to flammable materials. Never leave a candle unattended. You can also use electric candles for that soft candle glow without the danger of a house fire.
Criminals and the Holidays
Unfortunately, theft and robberies also increase during the holiday season. Please be aware of your surroundings when shopping. Try to shop in the daytime with your home care aide to help you with bags and other items. Make sure not to overburden yourselves, as this will make you an easier target for criminals. Avoid parking in secluded areas so that you are visible if any trouble befalls you.
Make sure that your home is secure as well. Your home care aide can check and make sure that all windows and doors are properly secured. If you have a dog that sleeps outside, you may want to make arrangements for him to sleep inside to alert you if someone breaks in. Keep your phone or cellphone close and make sure that your ICE number is programmed so that you can call for help immediately. In case of trouble, dial 911 first!
Toys are flashy, colorful and most of them look like so much fun, we just want to get them all to watch our grandchildren have a wonderful time during the holidays. Please make sure that the toys are age specific to prevent choking hazards for smaller children. Children may also have difficulty with riding toys if they are outside of their age range.
Be safe and happy this holiday season!
