Here are some charities to help seniors through the holidays.

Smile Senior Care knows that when you are on a fixed budget, the holidays can be a particularly trying time.  Fortunately, there are some organizations out there to contact that may be able to help you and your senior family member during this time of the year.  Here are a few to contact today.  Merry Christmas!

The charity supports all of Los Angeles County. Free holiday assistance may be available for anyone that qualifies based on income and other factors. The programs can also provide Thanksgiving meals, Turkeys, toppings, and baskets.

Emergency services offered to the low income and working poor include food vouchers, free groceries, and also holiday baskets at both Christmas and Thanksgiving. The charity and its churches may also have referrals and information on other holiday programs. There are several Catholic charity centers that offer help around the holidays in Southern California, including in Santa Monica, Pasadena, eastern Los Angeles, and other area.

This non-profit partners with other agencies and goes by many names, including Fish Emergency Center, Harbor Interfaith Shelter, and Urban Harvester Partner. Free Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance is provided, with emphasis on children in Los Angeles County. Baskets of food and hot meals are served. They may also contain toys for children 18 years and younger. Most of the services are available for residents of Torrance, Harbor City, Lomita, and San Pedro California.

Holiday gifts, the Anchors for Tots toy drive program, and other aid is available. The programs administered also accept and rely on Christmas gift donations. All goods are provided to low-income children, infants, and teenagers.

Salvation Army
There are several centers across Los Angeles County. They operate food pantries that may have holiday meals and groceries. Other Christmas programs can include the Angel Tree or Adopt a Family. The bottom line is that volunteers and case managers try to ensure every child has some type of gift (clothing or toys) to open around the Christmas season. Toys For Tots Foundation – US Marine Corps

The programs operates from several sites in the county. Gifts, clothing, and toys are collected from the public and distributed to individuals and organizations at Christmas time. Most of the items collected are for children under the age of 14 and they are provided to children from low income and unemployed families.

Over 30 churches in the Los Angeles County and Antelope Valley region support and contribute to this holiday program. It also relies heavily on volunteers. Meals, gifts, toys, diapers, and other aid is provided.
